It's been awhile, so here's a new one. I'm racing for the first time in 11 months next weekend! Fuck yeah. I'm going to die. lol. I decided I was going to ride yesterday and I'm really stepping it up this last week in a last ditch effort to get in slightly better shape. I ran twice yesterday for a total of three miles. Two in the afternoon and another one at night. I woke up this morning and my hip fucking HURT. So after limping around all day and stretching out, I ran another mile. I smell pretty bad as of right now... but it's all good. I won't get another one in today, but hopefully I do tomorrow. Here in about an hour or so I'm driving back to Independence to go to my good buddy Josh Green's wedding! It's really weird that people from high school are getting married. I think they're fucking nuts, but more power to them, I guess. After that's over it's off to a bachelor party for the Cheeeeze. He's marrying his Higginsville lady friend and I believe they're heading to Texas, where he's stationed with the Air Force. We'll see how that goes, I guess. Sunday is their wedding and I'm going to that one too. I'm greatly considering wearing all black to signify both of their demises. Hehe.

So I'm back from my first drill weekend. I had a fucking blast. lol. It was awesome. I got in Friday night and met up with Elaina and headed to this big mall in St. Louis, the Mills or something like that, for dinner and to look for something to do. Too bad it closed before we could really find anything other than dinner. What kind of fucking mall closes at 9:30? That's St. Louis for you, I suppose. We ended up just heading back to my hotel to try to go swimming, but didn't get back til the pool was closing and Ms. Pool Nazi was kicking everybody out. Never been to a hotel pool that was supervized before..... St. Louis again, I guess. So we just hung out in my room for the rest of the night, but it was fun anyways.

Saturday morning came bright and early after four hours of sleep. I got to the base at 7:30 and was introduced to the guys in my unit. I only met four of them over the weekend, though. Our CO, Major Hunn, was in Texas at a combat leadership school, two others were at CATM training, and one missed drill. The ones I did meet, TSgts. Penuel, Deason, and Wicks and MSgt. Farris were all cool as hell. It was a little hectic when I first got there, so I just followed one or another of them until things settled down. My main job will mainly be weapons training and qualification. Saturday they were doing M-16 qualifications. That's right. My first duty day I got to play with M-16's. Fucking right. lol. We spent all day out on the range. Mostly all I did was run and get things for various people, but it was still a lot of fun. Once everyone was done, Sgt. Wicks handed me a 30 round magazine and an M-16, said "Insert the magazine until you hear it click, charge the weapon, switch to burst, and lean into it." I damn near splooged my pants. M-16's on three round burst are a LOT of fun. lol.

Once we got back to the base and checked all the weapons back into the armory we were done for the day...... kinda. All the guys I work with are law enforcement in some way or another so we just hung out on the back deck and I listened to all their stories. By the way, we were drinking beer. This beer was some of the best beer I ever tasted. It was free. Apparantly it is perfectly o.k. to take home the alcohol you seize at parties. lol. Seized beer in seized coolers on the back deck of a military base after a day of playing with guns. I think I'll fit right in....

I took a nap once I got back to my hotel room. After two hours of sleep I got back up and got ready to go out. Elaina and I hit Westport (the StL version) after she got off work and met up with some of her friends for a 21st party. It was really pretty cool down there. I didn't see any drink specials to rival anything even close to Warrensburg's, but I didn't expect it really either. I only drank one beer and promised DD duty for the night. After bars closed (1:15) we headed back to my hotel room again cause there wasn't really anything better to do. I'll spare you the details of those three hours, but about 4:30 I left to take her home. After getting lost on my way back to the hotel and dealing with a little construction, I walked back through my door at 5:45. I had 45 minutes before I had to be back on base.... Needless to say, I didn't go to sleep. I took a shower, packed my stuff, checked out, and went back to Jefferson Barracks. Sunday we had another training course to put people through, but this time it was on the Beretta M9 9mm pistols and the people to be trained were all officers instead of enlisted men. It was still a lot of fun, but there was more "Yes, sir. No, sir." going on than the day before. At the end of qualifying Sgt. Deason handed me a belt, holster, and M9 with two 15 round magazines so I put of a fresh target and showed everybody how I well I can shoot. lol. They were impressed, but it wasn't my best. I'll drop more jaws later. The only other thing I had to do was go to Commander's Call at the end of the day, where all the promotions, awards, latest news about the base, and introductions are made. So I got to stand up in front of the entire wing and say hello, but it wasn't that bad. The three and a half hour drive back to the Burg after no sleep the night before sucked, however. I think I slept through half of it, but I made it back safe anyways.

I got some other news while I was down there that was very good and very reassuring, and I'm sure some of you are going to be very happy to hear it. There is a mission coming down from the top to Jefferson Barracks that will ensure that I am not leaving to go anywhere. It's too important for the Security Police to stay there. They're going to give us about 25 more guys, step up the basic requirements we must meet to be SP, and immobilize us. They're bringing something to the base that I'm really not allowed to talk about, but they want it on complete lockdown. Basically, no Middle East for me! Plus I've got my first piece of classified information. Hehe.

So long story short, I had a great weekend and I finally got to bed Sunday night after 26 and a half hours of no sleep. But it was definately worth it. I'm very happy that I joined the Guard and I definately picked the right job with Security Combat Arms. Sorry this thing was so long!

So I'm doing much better than I was in that last post. I realize this stuff is still a year away, and things could possibly change. I hope so, but even if they do I've got a pretty decent chance of going to Afghanistan. That's alright, though..... I even think it might be kind of cool, as long is there's not a full-fledged war going on. Not a whole lot new recently other than that. My first drill weekend is coming up and I'm really excited about it. I can't wait to meet the people I get to serve with and start getting fully prepped for basic training and tech school. One of my friends just got back from studying abroad in England last week, so I've been hanging out with her a bit, drinking, catching up, and reminiscing. As for hanging out with girls, there's one I've seen a couple times. She's cool and way too God-damned cute not to like at least a little bit. lol. It's not fair.... Cuteness should not play that much of a factor. Nothing more than dating will come of it for the Summer though, cause I refuse to commit to something as far away as St. Louis. Especially after my fairly recent relationship trauma..... But it's fun, and that's all that really matters at this point in my life. I'll be sure to update next week and tell everybody about my first military duty experiences.

Things have been weird for me the past few days. I've felt very emotional (yeah, call me a pussy, I know), and just kinda fucked up in general. Mr. Bush is starting to mobilize the Army and Marines for something in Iran, and switching control of Afghanistan over the Air Force and the Navy. So now it's just a matter of time before I'm done with training and in the Middle East..... Yes, I am going. No, I don't want to. This war will be a bad one folks. A very bad one. It's no easy overthrow of Iraq or chasing Al Queda through tunnels in Afghanistan. I'll go ahead and call WWIII. The U.S. and our Allies vs. Iran, China, and North Korea. Not to mention all the terrorist cells that are going to cause trouble God knows where.... Several things have been running through my mind, and none of them have been good......

"There they charged up Iwo Jima Hill, 250 men, but only 27 lived, to walk back down again"

"Those who have seen war, never stop seeing it."

And various other war quotes and song lyrics..... Nothing I can do now, except wait and accept this. Now if I can just get my mind off of it for a night.
